An Invermere resident was nearly a victim of fraud through a job ad in her local paper.
The woman contacted police after responding to a request for support from a caregiver for their mother suffering from Dementia.
Not long after e-mailing the address noted in the ad, she received a cheque for $3250.07, with a request to deposit the cheque in a different account, then send confirmation of the deposit.
The woman suspected this was a scam and called the RCMP.
Police remind residents this is a well-known scheme and to contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501 if you feel you are being targeted.
