Elkford Search and Rescue is on the move after outgrowing their current home.
The society is planning to use a government grant to fund the construction of a building to house emergency equipment, as their current facility is not large enough for their trailers, trucks and other tools..
Manager Marianne Stone says the District has given SAR approval to use land behind the fire hall.
“We have funding for the actual purchase of the building,” Stone says. “We’re looking for donations of equipment and manpower to prepare the land, get footings put in and to the actual erection of the building.”
Stone says the facility will start out as a cold storage unit, with hopes to add various features over the next five years.
She adds they will need to fundraise to cover future additions.
“Our five-year plan is to carry forward and hopefully after five years, have enough funding acquired to insulate that building and pour a pad for the base. Our initial plan has an earth base,” Stone says.
Stone says they are looking for help to wrap up construction sometime this Fall.
