An evacuation order for 40 properties on St Marys Band land has been downgraded to an evacuation alert.
Thanks to the quick response of the City of Cranbrook Fire Department, BC Wildfire, the RDEK and endless volunteers the evacuation order issued on September 1, 2017 has been rescinded to an evacuation alert and signed off by Chief Joe Pierre.
The status of the fire is that it is ‘being held’, is 75% contained and a fire fighting crew of 35 people will remain on site.
Staff will be available on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at 8:30 am, should you require assistance with registering for the Red Cross Funding and we ask that you fill out a House Damage Report.
The rescinded Evacuation Order may be reactivated if conditions change. Area residents are cautioned that air quality may be poor.
Currently at this time, Forestry is investigating the cause of the fire.
