The chairperson of the Sam Steele Society is putting her name forward for Cranbrook’s upcoming by-election.
Christy Wheeldon has lived in the Key City since the late 1990s, getting involved in numerous community groups and causes.
She thinks having a short term on council would make a great introduction into municipal politics.
“I do support this current council. I think when we look around our community and how much they’ve done for our infrastructure, roads, sidewalks and Idlewild Park, They are really heading in the right direction,” Wheeldon says. “This gives me a jump start with what they’ve already been going and doing and leading up to the next election.”
Wheeldon says this is a great opportunity to better the community.
“Certainly continuing with our economic development, infrastructure upgrades,” Wheeldon says. “I’m very excited about the group that’s planning for the Joseph Creek restoration and of course, just doing everything we can to enhance the quality of life for all of our residents.”
Eight candidates have put their name in to fill the seat left by former councillor Tom Shypitka.
Stay tuned for more candidate profiles ahead of the by-election October 21st.
