The former MLA for Kootenay East views Andrew Wilkinson as an opportunity to refresh the party.
Bill Bennett is co-chairing the leadership campaign for the Vancouver – Quilchena MLA, who toured through Cranbrook Sunday and Monday.
“We’re working at being more responsive to people and a better listener,” Bennett says. “I wish we didn’t have to lose government to go through that cycle, but we did and that’s healthy in a democratic process.”
Bennett says the party lost its capacity to listen before the last election.
“We thought we knew what was most important to people and in some parts of the province, I guess we did,” Bennett says. “But in other parts of the province, like the Lower Mainland, we didn’t know what was most important to people, so we need to listen more. We need to hear what people are saying all over the province.”
Wilkinson talked on topics like the Agriculture Land Reserve, wildlife management and the grizzly bear hunt.
He is one of six candidates seeking leadership of the provincial party.
