Our region’s highways maintenance contractor is warning motorists winter conditions are on their way this week.
Mainroad East Kootenay says a weather system is expected to arrive as early as Tuesday night and could bring up to 20 cm of snow in some areas over the following four days.
Temperatures may drop as low as -20C in parts of the Elk Valley and -15C elsewhere in the district.
The contractor says the system should clear by Sunday but colder temperatures are expected to linger.
Mainroad East Kootenay says crews are now on a 24 hour winter shift and will be patrolling, plowing and treating roads as conditions dictate.
They add motorists should be prepared for the first blast of winter with good winter tires, winter wiper blades and plenty of winter washer fluid.
