Fernie Alpine Resort is opening early for a Preview Weekend after near record preseason snow.
Skiers and snowboarders will be able to hit the slopes this weekend.
Spokesperson Matt Mosteller says over 230 centimetres of the white stuff has fallen before the ski hill even opens.
“Lifts are going to be operating from 9 am – 4 pm both Saturday and Sunday, Deer, Elk, Bear, Boom and Haulback lifts.” Mosteller says. “We’re going to have fewer services available and it should be an incredible start to winter for all skiing and riding enthusiasts.”
Spokesperson Matt Mosteller says conditions this year look ideal.
“Some weather outlets are forecasting an even stronger winter this year and the jetstream is certainly showing a mighty power to it,” Mosteller says. “It is coming up through our region, certainly hits us right in the middle of the Powder Highway, which is where Fernie and Kimberley are located.”
Fernie will close following the preview, then reopen for the season December 1st.
Kimberley’s ski hill may have a preview weekend, after 160 centimetres have fallen there.
They are slated to open December 9th.
