The Kootenay ICE will be short two players who will be heading overseas for World Junior selection camps.
Martin Bodak will compete for a spot on Team Slovakia for the second straight year.
Gilian Kohler will look to get his first taste of World Junior action with Team Switzerland.
Bodak says he’s excited to have the opportunity to represent his country again.
“I’m happy to [be able to see my friends] and coaches also.” says Bodak. “I’m pretty excited for this tournament and it will be so nice to play there.”
Bodak says this is a tournament that he watched every year growing up.
“It’s more [fast] than men’s [pro] league.” says Bodak. “It’s pretty much [just] young guys and they are fast and strong, it’s much better I think and much [more] fun than men’s hockey on the TV.”
Bodak and Kohler both joined Kootenay this season after being selected in the 2017 CHL Import Draft.
Bodak has been a top-line defenceman all season for the ICE and posted one point in five games in last year’s World Juniors.
The 2018 World Junior Hockey Championships are being held in Buffalo, New York from December 26, 2016 – January 5, 2018.
