Invermere was busy getting the new $10 million multi-use Columbia Valley Centre up and running in 2017.
Mayor Gerry Taft says completing construction of the facility ahead of time and under budget was a major highlight for the district this year.
Taft says they began using the facility in June.
“Since then we’ve had a lot of different events in the space.” says Taft. “The Invermere Public Library has been able to move into the building and so far it’s been very well received by the public.”
Taft says it’s been great to see all the different way the building is being used.
“We’ve had everything from weddings to funerals to Christmas craft fairs to different meetings and events – banquets, parties, all kinds of stuff.” says Taft.
Taft says theatre and performance arts equipment, seating, a dividing wall and the kitchen are the only things left to finish in the facility.
The Mayor says they didn’t face too many challenges in 2017 although losing the provincial election was a low point for Taft personally.
