Mounties in Cranbrook are addressing speculation on social media after arresting a bloodied man with an axe Friday night.
At approximately 8:30 PM, officers responded to a complaint from a concerned resident reporting a man carrying an axe while walking down Baker St.
RCMP say they arrested the suspect, who had blood on him and was known to police, without incident and took him back to the detachment to be held in custody.
The 46 year old Cranbrook resident faces charges of breaching his conditions and is expected to appear in court at a later date.
Constable Katie Forgeron says in a press release, “There was a lot of speculation on social media about this incident. Cranbrook RCMP want to stress that not everything that is said on social media platforms is the truth. Cranbrook RCMP has a very good relationship with the media outlets in town. If something serious would have occurred that could have put the community at jeopardy, rest assured there would have been a notification from the Cranbrook RCMP.”
The Drive newsroom received several inaccurate messages regarding the incident as well.
