A Search and Rescue helicopter had to recover an injured snowmobiler outside of Cranbrook this weekend.
SAR was called around 3:30 PM Sunday afternoon when a member of a group rolled his sled and was unable to continue riding.
Search Manager Greg Bedwell says a chopper was deployed to recover a man who hurt his leg in the Gold Creek and Teepee Creek area.
“We flew in and were on scene for maybe 30 minutes at the most,” Bedwell says. “We flew back to Big Horn Helicopter’s hanger on Theatre Road and had BC Ambulance Service meet us there.”
Bedwell says the man was cared for by his friends until SAR could arrive.
Kimberley SAR’s snowmobile team was on standby in case an air rescue was not possible.
The man was transported to hospital to be assessed.
