Two people have been arrested in Radium after allegedly selling stolen property online.
Columbia Valley RCMP received several complaints from members of the public who reported possessions that had gone missing and turned up on a classifieds website.
“The homeowners or the property owners were perusing Kijiji, they started to find some of their articles posted for sale or ones very similar to the ones that were stolen,” Sergeant Bob Vatamaniuck says. “They alerted the RCMP and so we started to dig into it and look a bit further.”
Vatamaniuck say they believe the items were taken during local break and enters in recent months.
“We usually fined a number of items from break and enters that either weren’t reported or were reported sometime ago, so usually when we solve one of them, we solve six or seven,” Vatamaniuck says. “In this case, we were able to curtail some of that by apprehending them before they continued this behaviour.”
Officers recovered several stolen items, mostly computer and electronic equipment, believed to be taken in break and enters over the last couple of months.
Charges are being recommended for a 30 year old man and a 21 year old woman.
