Search and Rescue needed a helicopter to recover an injured snowmobiler outside Fernie this weekend.
SAR was called Sunday afternoon after a 23-year-old man injured his leg while riding.
Search Manager Simon Piney says the man was travelling with a group of snowmobilers when the injury happened.
“The group were extremely well-organized. They were able to get in contact with 911, they were able to give latitude and longitude, explain what was going on. They also provided some first aid for the young man,” Piney says. “We were able to work out exactly where they were, assess there was no avalanche hazard and then sent two technicians in by helicopter to pick him up.”
Crews were deployed near Morrissey Forest Service Road where the snowmobiler was stabilized.
The man was transported to hospital to be assessed.
