A new accessibility lift at a Kimberley theatre could cost more than expected.
The city’s Arts Council successfully fundraised for a wheelchair lift at Centre 64 in December.
Fundraising Chair Carol Fergus says they’ve spent the last few months planning how to use the money raised.
She says they originally budgeted $175,000 however construction costs could bring that total closer to $200,000.
“Everything’s gone up, it doesn’t matter if its the product itself, the labour costs, everything is seeing increases” Fergus says. “We have to just look forward and get it done. We’re working at some cost saving factors and hopefully it will come back in at $175,000.”
Fergus says they have contingency funds to help deal with the added expense.
She expects the new lift will be ready to go by September.
