A snowfall warning has been issued for areas of the East Kootenay and the Elk Valley.
About 10 centimeters of snow is expected to fall in the region.
A low pressure centre forming over central Washington State will deepen and move northeast into the Kootenay region Saturday morning.
Cranbrook can expect to get 5 to 10 centimeters, but snowfall could be as high as 15 centimeters near Kimberley.
As the low continues northeast, snow is expected to ease off Saturday afternoon.
Environment Canada is advising drivers to be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions. Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow.
