Fernie residents can have their final say on a new automated garbage and recycling service expected by June.
City Council will make a final decision on trash pick-up at their meeting Monday night.
Council already gave staff approval to move forward with planning changes to garbage collection.
Monday’s decision could award a 7-year contract to Southwest Disposal for the new service.
If approved, bear-resistant bins for trash and recyclables would be provided for each residence in the community.
Those changes are expected to increase garbage rates from $74.64 a year to $154.99 dollars in 2019.
Information on the new service was presented at an Open House earlier this month.
Staff says they received plenty of feedback on the cost increase and the size of the bins.
Members of Council are encouraging residents to come to Monday night’s meeting and give their thoughts before the vote.
