The Fernie Chamber of Commerce hopes a new regional approach to marketing drives business to the Elk Valley.
This after Imagine Kootenays announced Fernie, Sparwood, Elkford and the Tobacco Plains Indian Band would be promoted together on their website.
Executive Director Patty Vadnais says the chamber has been working with all four communities to help attract business to the region.
“We need to collaborate as a valley and this is just one of the ways that we can do that,” Vadnais says. “One of the things that keeps coming up is ‘if not here, than near.’ If somebody is looking at Sparwood, Elkford, Fernie or the South Country, its all going to benefit the region.”
She says this will shine a light on the best elements of the Elk Valley.
“Each part of the region has its own strength,” Vadnais says. “Then with Imagine Kootenay marketing to broader British Columbia and Canada, it showcases that our region has more to offer to people who are looking to invest in the area.”
Vadnais says Fernie and Sparwood have both brought in new investors through Imagine Kootenay.
She expects similar results for Elkford and Tobacco Plains now that they’ve joined the service.
20 Elk Valley businesses are currently listed for sale on their website.
