An alleged drunk driver in Invermere was heading to court to enter a guilty plea on a previous impaired driving charge.
Columbia Valley RCMP says they caught a man driving erratically in the downtown core last week and realized the suspect already had a long history of impaired driving.
Constable Chris Joy says the driver failed a breath test – before explaining he was on his way to the courthouse in connection to an earlier incident.
The man said he was unable to get a ride to the courthouse, so he drove himself from Canal Flats.
“We do see repeat offenders driving, not everyday but it definitely does happen. It is an issue that we deal with,” Joy says. “No one wants to see someone miss court, so the officer gave that individual a ride.”
The man was handed a two year driving prohibition, a near two thousand dollar fine and another court date for his latest drunk driving charge.
