An RCMP dive team is still trying to recover the body of a contractor at an Elk Valley mine.
An employee was killed Monday at Teck Resource’s Fording River Operations northeast of Elkford.
Something caused a floating excavator to flip over into a tailings pond, trapping the contractor under water.
Elk Valley RCMP tell us it has not been easy trying to evaluate the scene due to its industrial setting and safety risks.
They confirm the dive team is back on site Wednesday to cautiously continue their investigation, along side the province and BC coroner’s service.
Police expect to know more information by the end of the day.
Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources Minster Michelle Mungall said in a statement, ” I wish to offer my sincere condolences to the employee’s family, the workers at Teck’s Fording River Operations and the community.
