The city of Fernie is keeping an eye on water levels throughout the community.
This after the BC River Forecast Centre added the Kootenay region to a high stream flow advisory late last week, including areas around Creston, Cranbrook and the Elk Valley.
City staff say they are increasing monitoring of creek and stream levels in areas prone to flooding as warmer temperatures increase the Spring melt.
Sandbags are available at Fernie’s Public Works Yards across from TJs Auto Body on Railway Avenue.
Residents are encouraged to bring their own shovel to fill the bags.
Similar stations are available at various locations throughout the Kootenays, including Cranbrook’s Public Works Yard and Kimberley’s Centennial Hall.
