Local hockey players had a chance to gain exposure at a Junior A spring hockey camp in Cranbrook this past weekend.
The Alberni Valley Bulldogs of the BCHL were in town taking a look at players throughout the Kootenays and Southern Alberta.
Assistant Coach Jeff Dubois says players in the region often fly under the radar.
“We’ve always done a spring camp in Port Alberni and we’ve done a camp in Osoyoos the last few years so this was a chance to branch out and get out to an area that we haven’t been in the past and hopefully attract more players from Alberta also.” explains Dubois.
Dubois is familiar with the area from his time as Head Coach of the Creston Valley Thunder Cats.
“It was an area where we wanted to come and see some guys that we might not otherwise see.”
Over 100 players attended the camp where they went through fitness testing, played games, and talked with coaching staff.
The Bulldogs finished last season fourth in the Island Division with a 17-32-5-4 record and were beat out by the Victoria Grizzlies in seven games in the first round.
