55 new homes are in the works for East Kootenay families struggling to find housing they can afford.
The BC Government and the Columbia Basin Trust announced Tuesday they would build nearly 170 new affordable housing units in nine communities across the Province.
The CEO of CBT Johnny Strilaeff says they will work with each community organization to hammer out costs for each project.
“We’re still confirming those details, so when we actually have finalized information in each one of those communities, there will likely be a release for each one of those individual projects,” Strilaeff says.
The Fernie Family Housing Society will see the most support in the East Kootenay, with 35 units receiving funding.
Projects in Invermere and Kimberley will also be supported.
