The situation with mountain caribou in Southern BC is looking bleak.
Environment Canada released findings last week that showed 10 herds in the southern mountains of BC and Alberta were under immediate threat of dying out.
This after Wildsight announced last month population levels in the Southern Rockies and Southern Purcells herds were at their lowest point ever, with seven animals left in both groups combined.
Federal Environment Minister Catherine McKenna declared the species was under imminent threat and immediate intervention is required for their eventual recovery.
She says Ottawa needs to speak with their counterparts in BC and Alberta to discuss how to move forward.
