Kimberley RCMP’s Speed Watch program is ready to hit the streets for another season.
Corporal Kate Bamber says the team of volunteers will set-up radar and speed reader boards at locations throughout Kimberley to record the speed of each vehicle.
They then pass that information on to RCMP.
Bamber says warning letters are occasionally sent out to the registered owners of vehicles caught speeding.
“Volunteers are sitting there monitoring the vehicles and they are gathering statistics and taking down license plates of people who are excessively speeding,” Bamber says. “We can do some enforcement based on that.”
The Speed Watch program helps Kimberley RCMP figure out what areas of town need more traffic enforcement.
