A number of Moyie residents have been able to learn more about plans to preserve the narrows on the lake.
Regional District of East Kootenay planner Michelle Bates says over 150 residents showed up to Saturday’s meeting which touched on preservation options.
Representatives from Transport Canada, Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations and Kootenay East MLA Tom Shypitka were also at the meeting.
“The feedback I received was really positive, people were mostly appreciative that we had those experts come in and provide us those options. It’s really early in the process now to determine what options the community is going to choose, but I think overall people were respectful of each other and it was a successful meeting.”
Bates says different agencies can bring different options.
“The Regional District can implement development permits on the shoreline, Transport Canada has what they call a vessel operation restriction regulation and there’s a lot of options there for the community from signage to speed limits.”
Bates says feedback gathered at the meeting will be brought back to the Regional District for consideration.
