The president and GM of the Kootenay ICE believes signing their top three draft picks this week is a testament to the work staff has put in.
The ICE signed second overall pick Carson Lambos along with second rounders Karter Prosofsky and Skyler Bruce Monday.
Matt Cockell says they believe Lambos was the best player in the entire draft.
“Defence is a real tough position to find elite talent and Carson really does everything that you look for in an elite defenceman.” says Lambos. “He moves the puck, he plays fast, he thinks the game well and we’re excited to add him to our group.”
He adds Prosofsky brings an edge to his game on the blue line while Bruce is an intelligent goal scorer.
Lambos and Bruce played Bantam Prep together at Rink Hockey Academy in Winnipeg last season.
Cockell says Lambos will return to RHA for his Midget Prep season this year.
“They have a tremendous program and he’ll play there and we’ll look to find different opportunities to include him in our program, one where it’s not disruptive to what he’s doing where it works with his school and also is the best timing for him to come in and really start to integrate himself into our group looking ahead to next year.”
Lambos collected 40 points in 30 games last season and was the top scoring defenceman in the Canadian Sport School Bantam League.
Cockell says they want to continue improving player experience so they can become the best place to develop in the CHL.
