The Kimberley Trails Society is putting $30,000 from the City to good use.
Society President Brett Price says they hired a trail manager for the community a few weeks ago thanks to funding received for maintenance.
He says having someone working full-time on the trails has led to a night and day difference from previous years.
“The guy works around the clock with a lot of heavy physical work, as well as helping us with the operating plans and securing more funding for other areas,” Price says. “Because this is pretty much purely maintenance, as well as helping to manage and motivate people, which is volunteers, directors etc.”
Price estimates about 50 per cent of residents plus visitors put the trails to use.
He feels its essential to have someone working full-time to improve one of Kimberley’s most popular amenities.
Price says despite new hires, there is still a strong need for volunteers to join the Trail Society.
He says the majority of the work is done with the support of Kimberley residents.
