Cranbrook’s women’s fastpitch team is making a name for itself.
The East Kootenay Xtreme were champions of the CWFA Summer Classic tournament in Calgary over the weekend.
The Xtreme opened the tournament with a massive 13-0 win over the Calgary Coyotes.
After a tough 6-5 loss to the Calgary Renegades, East Kootenay bounced back with a 4-3 win over the Sluggers and a 4-0 victory against the Wolves.
EK’s 3-1 record put them up against the Calgary Xtreme in the semi-final. East Kootenay proved to be the better of the two Xtremes in a 9-6 win to propel them to the final.
The team defeated the Calgary Renegades 12-8 to secure the tourney title.
Head Coach Doug Morrison says the team made huge improvements from their first tournament in Sicamous. Morrison says they played solid defence and never got down on themselves when things didn’t go their way.
The Xtreme are hopeful to host a tournament July 6, but if not a double-header with Elkford will be scheduled.
