More people had jobs and less were out of work in the Kootenays in 2017.
The Chartered Professional Accountants of British Columbia’s annual report shows 4,500 new jobs were created in the Kootenays last year to help the region’s employment rate grow by 6.7%.
The unemployment rate was 7.3% at the end of last year, it’s lowest level since 2013.
The service sector saw a big increase with 4,200 new jobs created.
The report shows more than 71,000 people had jobs in 2017, it also shows that number fell to under 64,000 by March with goods and services sectors losing workers.
