Conservation Officers say they have no suspects after a cat was found dead in an illegal trap set near Sparwood.
CO Patricia Burley says the cat was found dead Wednesday by a Sparwood resident near the Michel Creek Road.
She believes the cat had been trying to return home after its leg was trapped.
“This was a concern for not only safety, but someone was illegally trapping within the district, trapping without a license and just using a trap illegally,” Burley says. “We also have inhumane treatment of an animal under the Criminal Code, which the SPCA could also be involved with.”
Burley says devices like this pose a safety risk to both animals and residents
COs searched the area but could not find any other traps.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Report All Poachers and Polluters hotline.
