There will be a new Regional District of East Kootenay representative on the Columbia Basin Trust board of directors next year.
Kimberley mayor Don McCormick has been nominated to take on the role starting January 1.
If approved, he’ll take over the role from Area F director Wendy Booth who has served on the board for the past five years.
Her term is coming to an end.
McCormick says the CBT is evolving its focus towards regional development and looks forward to making positive contributions while serving on the board.
“As a regional development stakeholder, I don’t think there is anybody as big or as impactful on regional development as CBT,” says McCormick “I’ve been a big proponent for regional development being important to have individual communities, to add strength to individual communities.”
He adds the Columbia Basin Trust must grant their approval before he can officially take on the role from Booth.
“This is a nomination, CBT still needs make the final decision and it’s not going to be effective until January 1, so director Booth continues as the board seat until that period of time.”
McCormick says he’s excited for the opportunity.
