A Kimberley man believes he has the heart for municipal politics.
Josh Lockhart is the first to publicly announce he is running for City Council October 20th.
He feels he would be a good representative for young families in Kimberley.
“The census has shown for the past couple go-rounds that Kimberley is getting younger and most of council is nearing retirement or already retired, so there’s that population not being represented,” Lockhart says. “We have a lot of young entrepreneurs and a lot of young families. Now is the time for someone my age to step into council.”
Lockhart works with Ktunaxa Kinbasket Child and Family Services and is involved in numerous community groups, including the Kimberley Dynamiters.
He says the city has seen a lot of development in recent years and hopes to see continued growth moving forward.
Lockhart hopes he can take his community involvement to the next level as part of council.
“You can really tell the health of the community by how the platzl is looking,” Lockhart says. “When we moved here seven years ago, it felt very ghost townish. Now there’s all these new businesses and all these events going on. That for me, that community spirit is something that is going really well and I feel we can do more of that.”
Lockhart feels its important to recognize the city’s rich history while planning for the future.
