Thousands of bees were discovered in a Marysville residence last week.
Beekeeper Randy Moody of Moody Bees was called by a woman in the community who saw numerous bees flying around her home.
He discovered a swarm in the woman`s chimney, which he estimated to have around 10,000 bees.
“It was fairly new, so they had built a little bit of honeycomb against the wall of the chimney inside the insulation,” Moody says. “For the most part, it was pretty clean. We did have to remove the insulation to get it out, because there was bees and honeycomb and a little bit of honey mixed in with it, but the damage was minimal.”
Moody says this is a good score for his business, as he can make a functioning honey bee colony out of the swarm.
“Luckily, it was fairly new so it wasn’t too well established. That made it easier to remove,” Moody says.
He says the incident is not that uncommon, as the bees swarm every Spring at places throughout town.
