The Key City Theatre Society is holding a celebration next week to mark the beginning of upgrades to their facility.
Chair Chris Johns says they’ll spend $800,000 for the first phase of the project which looks after structural upgrades which should be done by September.
He says it’s an exciting time for the theatre which hasn’t undergone any significant upgrades since its construction in 1992.
“It’s exciting, that’s for sure, and it’s with a little trepidation in terms of once (we) start this project we want to have the theatre open again and have audiences coming in mid to late September at the very latest.”
Johns says the first phase of upgrades will be geared towards improving the facility’s structure.
“We have been working to raise the necessary funds to begin the structural repairs. We have electrical and mechanical to do next, which would be in our phase 2, possibly phase 3.”
The celebration happens Wednesday morning at 9 am at the theatre auditorium which will include speeches from organizations that are helping to fund the upgrades.
The theatre will be closed after the event until renovations are finished.
