A busy week for South Country Rural Fire and Rescue crews has highlighted the need for more volunteers.
Chief Dave Boreen says they’re underserved in all of their departments.
“We’re looking for at least 5 new members at each department that we have. When I speak to that it’s Jaffary, Baynes Lake, Elko and Hosmer. I think our Columbia Valley departments are in the same boat right now as well, they’re looking for new members up there.”
He says crews were tired after responding to three calls in less than 24 hours last week and wants to make sure firefighters aren’t burning themselves out.
“It’s those same members that are coming out and doing all these responses. It starts to wear them out, and one of the things we don’t want to do is wear those members out and burn them out.”
Contact your local fire department if you’re interested in volunteering.
