Extreme fire danger ratings have been put in place for certain parts of the East Kootenay.
Cranbrook, Elko and Koocanusa are all rated at “5” by the BC Wildfire Service – which signals extreme fire danger.
The Flathead area, Sparwood and Round Prairie north of Elkford are all rated at “4” which means high fire danger.
One wildfire that is 0.01 hectares in size is burning north of Elko. It is suspected to be caused by lightning and is located in the McDermid Creek area.
