RCMP say there were only a few incidents during the Julyfest weekend despite thousands of people flooding Kimberley streets.
Sergeant Chris Newel says four people were booked into cells late Saturday for causing a disturbance or resisting arrest, with one person facing charges for assaulting a police officer.
Newel says he was also impressed to see few reports of drinking and driving during the celebration.
“Two 90-day suspensions, two three-day suspensions and a few 24-hour suspensions. That’s fairly typical for JulyFest and even sometimes we can get that in a weekend normally,” Newel says. “So given the number of people in town, the number of people drinking, I think that’s a fairly low number.”
Newel adds people clearly made wise choices to get home through alternate methods.
Police maintained a strong presence at Julyfest throughout the weekend, with several roadchecks and officers patrolling event sites.
