The BC Wildfire Service is reminding boaters to steer clear of their aircraft.
Southeast Fire Centre Information officer Carlee Kachman says it hinders their efforts for their helicpoters to collect water when boaters get in the way.
“If there is somebody in the way, that impedes our firefighting activity and our efforts, and we do kind of have to stop what we’re doing. We won’t be able to get in there and get that water safely and successfully. Just be mindful that when you’re in the water that it’s very important to stay out of the way.”
The BC Wildfire Service is reporting that boaters on Okanagan Lake have been delaying their water-collection operations this year.
Last year the Southeast Fire Centre imposed temporary watercraft restrictions in a few areas including Moyie Lake to allow aircraft to collect water without interference.
No such restrictions are in place at this time.
