Recent lighting has prompted more wildfire activity in our region this week.
Southeast Fire Centre information officer Ashley Davidoff says “we currently have 102 active fires throughout [the Southeast Fire Centre]. All of those fires are being assessed and responded to ground crews and aviation support in priority sequence, and when assess wildfires full response, public safety is BC Wildfire’s first priority.”
There’s been 224 wilfires so far this year in the Southeast Fire Centre this year that have burned 928 hectares to date.
On the same date last year crews had responded to 199 fires that burned over 12,000 hectares.
She adds there are not off-road access restrictions in place for ATV’s at this time except for Beaverfoot Forest Service Road which is closed because of the 290 hectare Whitetail Creek Fire north of Radium Hot Springs.
