Upgrades and replacements at the Fernie Arena are well under-way.
The new ice plant will be delivered August 8th and staff training will take place shortly after.
Crews have been working diligently at preparing the Arena for a safe opening on September 10, 2018. Unfortunately, due to unanticipated scheduling requirements associated with the repair of the roof trusses, there will be an interruption of operations at the Arena for a four-week period in November.
During the shutdown, the Arena will be closed to the public and all user groups. The City hosted a Stakeholder meeting on August 1st to discuss scheduling with the impacted groups and identified alternative options for planned activities during the interruption.
The City will provide detailed dates and start up information in the coming weeks.
The Arena has been closed since October when three men died due to an ammonia leak.
