Columbia Valley RCMP say they had a generally quiet August long weekend.
Sergeant Darren Kakuno says says police conducted a checkstop at Athalmer Road and Lakeside Drive early Sunday.
“I’m not sure if the highway closures may have played a role in our slower weekend here. We did have the roadcheck on August 5, and in fact there were actually three 90-day prohibitions that were issued.”
He says they had additional resources and brought a member in from the Golden detachment but they didn’t deal with any major incidents.
RCMP say they dealt with one instance involving a resident falling for a rental scam.
The victim sent $2,250 via email to somebody claiming to be renting out a property in Invermere
The renter then contacted the person asking for more money, prompting suspicion.
The realtor who had the property listed confirmed its not for rent.
Police are investigating.
