The BC Wildfire Service says a wildfire near Creston has forced the closure of Highway 3 west of Creston.
The Blazed Creek wildfire, located approximately 26 kilometres northwest of Creston, has experienced substantial growth due to strong winds and is now estimated at 500 hectares in size.
Fire crews say the blaze is showing extreme fire behaviour, but is currently not threatening any communities.
Highway 3 is closed in both directions from Junction with Highway 6 to Junction with Highway 21 (64.8 km).
Detours are available via Highway 6 to Nelson, and Highway 3A to Balfour, Kootenay Lake Ferry and Creston.
Estimated time of opening is not known at this time.
