The large wildfire west of Kimberley is not as large as initial estimates from BC Wildfire Service had indicated.
Previous estimates pegged the blaze at 10,000 hectares.
The BC Wildfire Service has completed a perimeter scan of the fire which indicates it’s a little over half that size at 5,685 hectares.
Two pieces of heavy equipment are on-site and crews are planning for potential burn off operations.
St. Mary Forest Service Road is closed from the 31 km mark to the height of the land.
Sixty-five St. Mary Valley properties remain on evacuation alert.
