Columbia Valley RCMP wants drivers to pay more attention to school buses as kids head back to class.
Mounties received more than a dozen reports last school year of motorists failing to stop for buses picking up or dropping off students.
Corporal L.P. Gendron-Fafard says its a danger to children throughout the entire region.
“They are just basically ignoring the school bus signs when they are on,” Gendron-Fafard says. “Its a great value of concern for us, as children sometimes are not looking when they are crossing the streets themselves, so we want to make sure that motorists are aware of the legislation.”
Drivers are reminded that anyone caught passing while a bus has its emergency lights on could receive a $368 fine and three demerit points.
Buses are also equipped with camera systems to help identify drivers that pass them when stopped.
