The BC Wildfire Service says they are continue to monitor the McDermid Creek fire burning 11 kilometres south of Fernie
Information Officer Justine Hunse says while the fire has moved into the Lizard Range, its still not considered a threat.
“The fire did move slightly eastward and did crest the Lizard Range on Friday,” Hunse says. “With the forecasted conditions that we are expecting this week as we move into more Fall-like conditions, we certainly are not expecting to see any significant growth on that fire.”
The lightning caused blaze was discovered one month ago on August 11th and remains highly visible from the city of Fernie.
“The fire is still certainly not considered a threat to the community of Fernie,” Hunse says.
The McDermid Fire is currently estimated at 458 hectares in size.
Hunse says they will continue to monitor the blaze by helicopter and will put into place any resources that are required.
