Conservation Officers had to put down a black bear in Sparwood over the weekend.
WildSafe BC Elk Valley reports the bear had been seen accessing unsecured garbage in numerous locations in the District since the Spring.
The animal was trapped by COs this weekend and was deemed a threat to human safety, leading to it being put down.
WildSafe BC is urging residents to keep their garbage indoors and remove fruit from trees to keep bears wild and out of the community.
They say a bear can easily be habituated if it has easy access to food sources near people’s homes.
