A long time school trustee wants to continue contributing with the Rocky Mountain District.
Betty Lou Barrett has been with the board for 15 years and is seeking another four-year term.
She thinks her experience will help SD6 going forward, especially with the ongoing reconfiguration of schools.
“We were in declining enrollment and we dealt with that by having to close some schools a few years back, 10-12 years ago,” Barrett says. “Now we are looking at enrollment going up and we just need to keep a watchful eye on it.”
Barrett says they need to continue moving forward with support for LGBTQ students.
“We really have to move forward, the Ministry is coming out with some guidelines and we need to move forward on those issues,” Barrett says. “There’s just some things like washroom spaces and things like that that we have to deal with and we will deal with it.”
Barrett says issues around bussing, as well as continued support for special needs children, both need to be priorities going forward.
The Municipal Election is set for October 20th.
