A Fernie city councillor seeking re-election wants to help businesses find people to employ.
Joe Warshawsky says the city has lots of jobs, but very little places for new workers to live in.
He says the new City Council needs to take the lead on the community’s affordable housing issue.
“I know there’s funding available through CMHC and CBT to handle this,” Warshawsky says. “They say to be successful, you need land and you need an assessment of what your area is like and a non-profit if necessary to get your funding levels.”
Warshawsky wants to help the School District get the city’s elementary school replaced if he were re-elected.
He says Isabella Dicken Elementary School locally is bursting at the seams and is due for an upgrade.
“There’s so many students in there, they can’t have any assemblies in the gymnasium,” Warshawsky says. “I think that’s important.”
Warshawsky is one of 12 candidates seeking a seat at the Fernie Council table.
The Municipal Election is happening October 20th.
