Kimberley council recommended support for two applications to the Province for Cannabis businesses Tuesday night.
Council unanimously supported applications from both Earth’s Own and Tamarack Cannabis Boutique, ahead of the October 17th legalization date.
CAO Scott Sommerville says the two businesses have had zero issues during their three years of operations.
“Our residents want them to continue. Residents from other communities wrote letters of support as well,” Sommerville says. “So not only did we gather the views of residents within a 50-metre radius who have written letters, but the whole community and in fact, most of the East Kootenay came out in support of these two businesses.”
Sommerville adds 22 emails were sent to support Tamarack’s application.
He says residents from Kimberley and other communities in the East Kootenay have welcomed the applicants with open arms.
“The feedback was overwhelmingly positive on both dispensaries that have been operating in Kimberley for the last three years,” Sommerville says. “I commend them both on running great operations.”
The decision was made ahead of the October 17th legalization date for marijuana.
The owners of Tamarack Dispensaries were at the meeting and thanked the city for putting trust into their business to go forward.
