Fernie is showing it’s pride.
This as the city is partaking in the second annual Elk Valley Pride Festival.
The six day event started on October 9th with a flag raising ceremony at city hall.
Elk Valley Pride Festival president Sara Funk says the event inspires residents to be themselves.
“Before the festival came to town I found that allot of people were living under the radar or more privately”, Funk says. Which is absolutely wonderful. But to have that kind of visibility? It really helps people who live in town to just be here and be themselves”.
Funk says, they will certainly return for a third year, as long as their is a need for the festival and people willing to pitch in, they will certainly return for a third year.
